Batteries for AUV & Submersible Vehicles
Epsilor provides advanced energy systems for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV), and Swimmer Delivery Vehicles (SDV). Our battery voltage varies from 12V to 1,000V, while battery system energy capacity can reach up to 1,000kWh.
Designed to operate in challenging hostile underwater environments, these energy systems feature high safety and reliability, supporting vehicle and crew survivability.
Epsilor’s underwater batteries feature a distributed architecture and a modular electric and mechanical design, in which several independent batteries combine a redundant energy system. This distributed architecture also supports fitting the battery into different form factors and space constraints, supporting volume, center of gravity and redundancy requirements.
A modular cluster BMS divided to several control layers manages these smart battery systems:
- Basic module BMS that manages a low voltage battery, balances its Li-Ion cells, and supports its wellbeing.
- Layer BMS that connects several batteries of the same low voltage. This BMS supports the balance of all batteries connected in parallel and may disconnect a whole layer in case of malfunction or safety issue.
- Main BMS that operates independently Vis a Vis the vehicle computer, builds up the required battery voltage, connects and disconnects the different batteries and controls peripheral systems such as cooling and heating. This BMS also monitors the lower level modules.
Epsilor’s underwater batteries are delivered with dedicated high voltage high power charging systems that can be installed on shore or in a naval vessel. The charging system also acts as test equipment and may be operated on-site and remotely, from the vessel itself of from the shore using vessel communication.
